SESSION 19: IMAGES FORMATS

ACTIVITIES:
 a)Find out the most common formats for images and write a short description of the features of each of them.

          · Gif format: Use a maximum of 256 colors, and are recommended for images with large areas of the same color or non-continuous tones. Often used with great frequency, and for defining transparency and animation.

          ·JPG format: The images are of higher quality than GIF, being able to contain millions of colors, but the size of the image is larger and takes longer to download. You can include images in other formats, which can be viewed in some browsers. This is the case with BMP and PNG.You can change the format of the images using some image processing program, such as Fireworks, Photoshop, Corel Draw, etc.

        ·BMP format: BMP (Bit-map) is a file type for graphics based on bitmap. It's standard operating system from Microsoft. Each pixel has an associated number of bits to represent color in it. In fact, according to this, we can distinguish different formats: black and white (1 bit), 16 colors (4 bits), 256 colors (8 bit), 16 million colors (24 bit), etc..

The internal structure of BMP files is as follows:

* Header file

* Header information

* Color Palette (only for 8-bit files)

* Data
